Tips On Lighting Thermite

If you're a regular reader of science magazines, you've likely at one point attempted to blow something up. Well, have I got the material for you. Thermite is a mixture of aluminum and iron oxide that when mixed correctly can melt carbon steel. Setting it off can be a bit dangerous, so think before you set it on fire. To achieve ignition you need something really hot, and magnesium ribbon is just that. Put a stick of magnesium in the pile of thermite you LEGALLY obtained, light its tip on fire, and MOVE. Congratulations! You just put a hole in whatever you put the thermite on. Maybe you should put it on sand next time.
